HI Mom and Dad this is my portfolio for all my subjects. Through out the year I have learned many things in my subjects like Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science. In math, I have learned many new skills, and it will be shown through the portfolio. In Language Arts I have learned how to revise my paragraphs, similes, and how to do a EXPLORE Response. These are just two things I will be talking about, so lets get it started.
There are many things I'm at but so I won't bore you I'll just choose two, anyways two things I'm good at, is that I can multiple/divide fractions very well and that I'm good with the surface area and volume of an object. Two things that I need to improve on is how to convert decimals to fractions and percent, and that I need to improve my skills in writing and revising my work in Language Arts. My goals for the next 6 weeks are :
pass all tests
finish all homework
to be caught up
get better in my skills
listen in class
Lastly not to get Head Aches in math class

Term 1 Reflection
Term 1 Math Reflection
Last term I have learned about Rate, Ratio, and Proportion Reasoning. This unit was kind of hard for me, making numbers into a ratio, finding the unit rate and the unit price. Proportional reasoning was also hard for me because it was something I didn’t know. Squaring numbers where easy to me because I know my math. I also like to do square rooting because my brother helped me on it. In math class I only finished at least 75% of my homework. I have two reasons to this, one it might have been to hard and the other one is that I’m too lazy and didn’t want to do it. In term 2 I will try to finish my work in class so that i don’t have homework to do. I will also do better in my tests and my quizzes so my mark will be better.

This is my Term Two Reflection on math, we have learned surface area and volume is term. The unit that I did really well was volume, it was easy for me and I understand it well. I could help others and I could pass my test with a good mark. I really don’t have a unit that I struggled with, the units were easy for me. The thing that I can do better for the next term is to do my homework, take time to check my work in tests, and to listen more. I learned how to find the surface area and the volume in shapes. For surface area you have to find each face of the shape and add it together. For volume you have many things you have to do. You can find the volume of a rectangular prism, triangular prism, and a cylinder.
3) I can relate to “The Man Who Planted Trees” in many ways. First, like Elzéard, I am a man concerned about the environment. Why shouldn't I be? It gives us many resources that allow us to live. At my school, I remember the elementary kids planting trees around the play structure. This is also like Elzéard.
5) I think there are many reasons why people and organizations approach the environment. One reason, probably the best of all, is because some people plant trees just for the sake of the environment. I said that this reason was probably the best because these people aren’t looking for the money, they just want to make a brighter future. Another reason is just to bribe the people for votes for something like an election. I’ve seen politicians like this, they say they want to be green to the environment, but once they win the election, what happens to that idea? It never happens. On the other hand, there are the people who cut down trees for the money. I could imagine that paper making is a big business, so many companies probably cut down a lot of trees. The thing about this is that they often do not plant more trees after, and that really harms the environment.
6) Jean - Jean treated the forest like a second home. He always came there after his wars and see how Elzéard and his forest were doing.
The charcoal burners - They did not care about the forest.
Elzéard Bouffier - Elzéard treated the forest with a lot of care. It was his home and his life. He would plant trees every day until he had a huge forest. Elzéard’s tree planting was enough to revive a nearby village
Government Official - The government official wanted the forest just for the fame and fortune .
Member of Parliament - The Member of Parliament used the forest as something to get votes. He declared that it belonged to the people of France. At the time of World War II, he suggested that the trees should be cut down for steam trains.
Timber merchants - They were greedy
Villagers - The villagers did not know who made the forest.
10) Trees affect the local level because it is used to make fire. It is also used for things like furniture, and tools. On a global level, trees produce oxygen which helps us breathe.

GRADE EIGHT STUDENT ASSIGNMENT- PORTFOLIO REFLECTION TASK/INTENT/CRITERIA Throughout the year I have completed assignments based on Assessment for Learning practices. The learning process has followed the three key components: Subject:English Language Arts Short Story - "Thank You Ma'am" by Langston Hughes
TASK: What was I asked to do for this assignment? I was required to compose a friendly letter using information from a short story.
INTENT: Why am I completing this assignment? There are several reasons why I am doing this writing assignment. First I learned the elements of a short story and learned to identify them in our story. Next, we learned the components to write in a friendly letter format. Then, specific story details and wrote in the first person as if we were a character from the short story.
CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment?
Use proper Friendly Letter format referring to letter frame
compose the rough copy letter using specific details from the short story and write the letter from the perspective of one of the main characters in the story
remember to use appropriate tone and audience for the letter
complete all the steps in the writing process as set out in the assignment directions
NEXT STEPS:
I can now write a piece of writing using the friendly letter format
I can now complete a piece of writing by going through all the steps of the writing processI can now identify the elements of a short story and find them in a text
I can write from apoint of view of a character
I can now support my thoughts using specific examples from a text

For this assignment we talked about peace. I was required to create an image of what peace meant to me.
INTENT: Why am I completing this assignment?
The purpose of this assignment was to create a drawing of what peace meant to you using your sentences.
CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment?
To be successful you had to create an image split down the middle of what peace meant to you using yous senses and color it. You also had to write a sentence for each side.

For this assignment I was required to read about a Mesopotamian god/goddess and create a trading card with a picture and a description on the back.
INTENT: Why am I completing this assignment?
The purpose of this assignment was to learn about the gods/goddesses that the people of Mesopotamia worshipped.
CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment?
be successful you hade to create two sided trading card with a diagram of your chosen god/goddess on one side and their description and history on the other side.
I gave myself this mark because even through I met some of the criteria, I believe that I should done better. First of all, my tablet was a bit too square and Mrs. Wilson told us not to make too square because in ancient Mesopotamia they didn’t make it square. Second, my writing was a bit messy with small bits of clay in them. Lastly, some of my writing was too deep, one of them almost going to go to the other end.
I really enjoy this assignment because we got to learn about Mesopotamia writing and we actually got to do it like how they did it. There was somethings that were difficult for me during this assignment. The writing was difficult understand and the some of the cuneiform writing was too deep.
Next time we do this I would take more time writing the cuneiform writing then rolling the clay. I would make the cuneiform look almost as they did on the paper. Lastly, I would try to take all the tiny bits of clay out of the spaces.
